Influence made with social. Made with IBM

IBM has just released a new series of video spots under the ‘Made with IBM‘ line:

Made with IBM banner

What’s the world making today?

We live on a Smarter Planet, where data, mobile, social and cloud are transforming industries and allowing us to create value in new ways.

The evidence is abundant and it is everywhere. Watch it grow here.

This is the one on Social Business:

Taken independently, I’m a bit conflicted about the message to be honest. I’m not sure I agree with their definition of Social Business, nor whether two ladies taking a photo on a mobile phone is really the best illustration that could have been chosen…  As a suite of videos, ‘Made with IBM’ has a much more cohesive message.

Anyway, check out the ‘Made with IBM‘ playlist and see what you think ? I’d be interested in your comments…

Different technology, same values

A Lotus Notes ad from the R5 days, circa 1999:

I am ready‘, ‘I am connected‘, ‘I am not alone‘, ‘The power to work the way you want‘, ‘Share work and ideas‘ and so on…

This was describing Collaboration, Messaging and Workflow software from 13 years ago, but could so easily be describing the impact of Social Media and Social Business tools (such as IBM Connections) today.

My goodness, Lotus Notes and Domino really was painting a vision of the future…

Church + YouTube = ?

Church + YouTube = GodTube!

GodTube.com is a dynamic community of people who are looking to connect, share, and belong. In its simplest form, GodTube is a video-driven social network where users can explore their faith and the tenets of Christianity.

Our millions of users come back time and time again to find inspiration, ask questions, interact, chat, share, upload Christian videos, worship and more. Some of the content is fun, some of it is serious, and all of it is safe for the whole family. GodTube showcases religious content from many of the world’s leading Christian ministries and socially responsible faith-based organizations, including Spanish language and other international Christian ministries.

What’s more, they have recently received $30m funding from hedge fund GLG for further development and marketing.  The Telegraph reports:

Leading hedge fund GLG has invested $30m in a Christian version of YouTube as part of a $150m fundraising.
The godtube website

GLG, which is headquartered in London but listed on the New York Stock Exchange, injected the money in to GodTube, which claims to be one of the fastest growing Christian online video sharing and social networking sites.

The investment is understood to be part of the company’s first major fundraising round since the site launched last summer.

It is an interesting move for GLG, as the venture capital-style nature of this investment is something more associated with a private equity house rather than a hedge fund.

There is definitely a market for all kinds of online video, and for this type of content, so I hope GodTube continues to prosper…
