Do you wanna learn? To learn about stuff, stuff that is changing the world now, stuff that will change the world in the future? Or about people, people that have changed the world in a positive way, that are giving their time and energy to make it a better place, or people that will be the leaders of the future?
If any or all of the above is true, there is one place that you should go today, tonight, right now…
As the old kids show said, “just turn off the TV set and go and do something more interesting instead”.
Go to TED now, and simply pick a talk, any one will do – they are all absolutely riveting, wonderful and hugely thought provoking. Most are available as video, they are really good quality and can be watched full screen on most PCs.
So for your delectation tonight, how about:
Bill Clinton, talking about how he and the folks he works with are taking AIDs and other medicines to the poor and needy in Rwanda, building infrastructures that can be replicated throughout the world…
or, Theo Jansen, building robots that are like kinetic sculptures, built from plastic tubes and lemonade bottles. His “Strandbeests” (Beach Creatures) are built to move and even survive on their own.
or, Dean Kamen, asked by the US Defense Agency to build an extraordinary prosthetic arm to help the 1,600 “kids” who’ve come back from Iraq without an arm (and the two dozen who’ve lost both arms). In fact, why don’t you watch that one now…
Amazing huh?
You can also subscribe to the video or audio versions as Podcasts via iTunes or other Podcast software. I regularly listen to these in the car, and can’t help but be motivated by the time I get to the end of the journey 😉 Give them a try.
