Chris Pepin updates us on IBM’s progress in rolling out the latest Lotus products to their user base:
I began the presentation with an overview of IBM, its 385,000 employees world-wide, its open computing strategy including laptops (85% of employees have a laptop), desktop and smartphones. Next, I discussed Notes and Domino, how it forms the core of IBM’s messaging and collaboration infrastructure, an overview of IBM’s world-wide Domino server infrastructure for both mail and applications. I discussed IBM’s early deployment efforts and how we deploy pre-production client and server code into the IBM production infrastructure in advance of product ship and IBM’s Technology Adoption Program. I spoke on IBM’s migration from Notes and Domino 7 to Notes 8.0.1/8.0.2 and Domino 8.0.1 as well as IBM’s Notes and Domino 8.5 early deployment efforts. Currently, IBM’s mail server migration from Domino 7.0 to Domino 8.0.1 is nearly complete and applications servers are scheduled to be upgraded to Domino 8.5 next year to take advantage of new design features (e.g XPages). In terms of the client, there are over 80,000 employees on Notes 8.x and over 140,000 employees running Lotus Symphony – both integrated into Notes 8 and standalone.
Those are impressive numbers indeed. I imagine that IBM are beginning to save significant sums in MS Office renewal fees.
