If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em – Jaiku

I’ve tried to stay away from this phenomenon for a few months now, but it has finally taken me in…

Yes, I’ve signed up to Jaiku. For those that aren’t aware, internet presence awareness tools such as Twitter and Jaiku have been around for about 6-9 months now, providing a means to tell others on the ‘net what you’re up to, thinking, involved in etc, either via a web browser or your mobile phone. You can also sign up to view other peoples messages (“Tweets” in Twitters terminology) so you can keep track of others too.

Twitter was probably the first having become really popular at the beginning of this year – I heard about it via the Macbreak Weekly podcast. However since then, many other services have been started in the same vein, some arguably offering more features or an easier interface. Jaiku is one such service…

Jaiku’s main goal is to bring people closer together by enabling them to share their presence. For us, presence is about everyday things as they happen – what you’re up to, how you’re feeling, where you’re going. We offer a way to connect with the people you care about by sharing presence updates with them on the Web and mobile.

Once signed up, you can add a badge to your blog or website (see on the left hand navigation panel on this blog), and this can be customised to fit your need.
