Boost Adoption with a Brilliantly Simple Editor

The new editor in Confluence 4.0 is brilliantly simple, intuitive, and yet still packed with powerful features. A new streamlined toolbar puts new users at ease with familiar editing operations exactly where they’re expected. A single editor makes for a more reliable experience for your users and saved work that looks exactly like what was crafted in the editor. What you see is really what you get.

Intelligent and Lightning Fast

While new users will feel at home with the new editor, power users will thrive on innovative new features like Autoformatting. In the blink of an eye, Confluence converts wiki markup to rich text as you type; careful, you might miss it! They’ll love the performance improvements we’ve made to Autocomplete, putting links, images, media, and hundreds of powerful macros a couple of keystrokes away. Not to mention all the new keyboard shortcuts we’ve added to give them a faster editing experience than ever before.

Familiarly Social

Confluence 4.0 takes team collaboration to the next level. Just like Twitter and Facebook, it’s easy to bring others into the conversations taking place in Confluence with @mentions. Whether you’re editing a page, replying to a comment or publishing a blog post, it’s never been easier to foster team collaboration around your content in Confluence.

Hundreds of New Features

This post barely scratches the surface of Confluence 4.0. Take an interactive tour and learn about all the new features now!

Atlassian Confluence 3.5 Released: Stronger JIRA Integration

As an Atlassian partner, we are hugely excited about the new release of Confluence which has just been released.

Have you ever wanted to create JIRA issues from the Confluence Editor? What about being able to quickly insert recently viewed issues to generate ad-hoc reports in Confluence? Well, thanks to Confluence 3.5, now you can!  A new ‘Insert JIRA Issue’ dialog lets you create new issues, insert recently viewed issues, and search for existing issues to embed in Confluence pages.

Check out the short video below to see the features in action and keep reading for more information.

Confluence and JIRA Tie the Knot!
Hooray for less application switching! Shipped in Confluence 3.5 and JIRA 4.3, Application Links makes it a whole lot easier to connect JIRA and Confluence instances. What do you get when you connect the two? A new ‘Insert JIRA Issues’ dialog in the Confluence editor that let’s users insert ‘recently viewed’ JIRA issues, create new issues, or search for existing issues using ‘Quick Search’ or JIRA Query Language (JQL).

When a JIRA issue is inserted onto a Confluence page, key details such as the ‘Issue Type’, ‘Key’, ‘Summary’, and ‘Status’ are displayed. All inserted issues are dynamically updated. For example, if an issue’s status is changed from ‘Open’ to ‘Resolved’ in JIRA, the change will be reflected in Confluence. It’s never been easier to generate ad-hoc reports on the status of your JIRA issues.

With Confluence 3.5 you can transform rich content, like specifications and requirements, into actionable JIRA issues, without leaving Confluence.

Embed Audio and Video. Just Drag and Drop.
If you’re using a HTML5 browser like Safari 5 or Firefox, you can now take advantage of Drag and Drop for attaching files and documents to Confluence. Try dragging documents, images and even multimedia – Flash, Quicktime, Windows Media etc – straight from your Desktop into the Confluence Rich Text Editor. Confluence will not only attach the file to the page but insert the content into the page for you too. It couldn’t be easier to create pages full of rich content.
Let’s take a tutorial video, saved in Flash, as an example. Dragging the file into the Confluence Rich Text Editor does two things:
1.        Attaches the file to the page
2.        Inserts the video into the page for playback using the Multimedia Macro
If you need to change the height and width, or specify the video to play automatically when the page loads, you can do so via the Macro Browser.
Whether you’re looking for feedback, or just want to share something interesting, Confluence makes it quick and easy to share videos and audio with your colleagues.

An Extended, Better Looking Code Macro
The all-new and improved Code Block Macro, let’s you share snippets of code – HTML, C++, Java, Python, Ruby, and more. Choose from 20 different syntax highlighting options, toggle the display of line numbers, and apply a code theme like Emacs. There are dozens of combinations to choose from, making it really easy to share and document snippets of frequented code with your team.

With Confluence 3.5 the editing experience just got a whole lot richer.

Atlassian Confluence 3.5 Released: Share and Discover More Content

As an Atlassian partner, we are hugely excited about the new release of Confluence which is released today.

The new 3.5 release is overflowing with new features and improvements. Here I focus on two new features that will help you bring more users into Confluence environments and help them discover content that they want to know about.

In Confluence 3.5, every page and blog post has a new Share button that allows you to instantly notify the right people about content they should know about.

Confluence 3.5 also ensures users are kept up-to-date with the content they care about thanks to Autowatch. Now whenever you create or contribute to content in Confluence you are automatically added as a watcher so you never miss another user’s edit or comment.

Share Content with Your Team, Instantly
Tired of using IM and email to notify your team members about an update? In Confluence 3.5 we’ve introduced the Share Button so you can instantly share any page or blog post with a fellow Confluence user right from Confluence. That means no more application switching! All you need to do is click the Share button, specify which users you’d like to notify, provide a quick message and Confluence will do the rest.

Stay in the Conversations You Care About
Have you ever published a blog post but forgotten to watch it and missed out on the ensuing discussion? With the new Autowatch feature you’ll always stay updated on the content you care about even if you forget to manually watch the page or blog post yourself. Whenever you create, edit or comment on a page or blog post, Confluence automatically watches the article for you. We’ve also provided the option to only watch new blog posts of a space so you can discover the content that’s ‘newsworthy’ without receiving every dirty detail. Lastly, if you are receiving updates about a page or blog post you just don’t care for anymore, every Confluence email provides a ‘Stop watching this page link’ so you can stay updated on everything you care about, and nothing you don’t.

With Confluence 3.5 it’s easy to share what you know, and discover what you don’t.
